Looking To The Future: Beyond Black History Month
In our last post for our Black History Month series, we are looking beyond February to continue to celebrate and elevate Black voices every day.
What is Black Futures Month?
“Black Futures Month challenges Black people to push for collective liberation....
Black futures are indelibly linked to Black histories. Within the contexts of colonial and imperialist violence, Black people have always looked to the future. This innate impulse to imagine a more just, equitable and free future is what has propelled Black resistance for centuries. We know what hasn’t worked and what isn’t working. Anti-Black racism remains an endemic and systemic impediment to an unshackled reality for Black people everywhere.
A year into the pandemic, a period that will shape all our immediate futures in ways we cannot yet know, it’s crucial that we lay the groundwork for tangible progress.”
We hope this quote inspires action. It is on us to continue this activism, this celebration of Black History, of Black leaders, of Black excellence, and this work to dismantle Anti-Black racism and white supremacy every single day.
Here at theDock, we are working to create more opportunities to access space and resources for Black, Indigenous, and POC in our community. We expect to announce these opportunities in April / May 2021. In addition, we continue our commitment to supporting Black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and artists through theDock and in our day-to-day lives.
Learning should be a lifelong process. Read more about and support Black Canadian creators, artists, entrepreneurs, activists, and academic leaders present today:
